Who doesn't love soap bubbles? These cheerful rainbow balls delight many children. But little Mitya had never seen them before. The thing is, he's still very small and many things that are familiar to us seem extraordinarily interesting and unusual to him.
One day, while playing in the park with his mom, Mitya spotted a large transparent ball flying through the air. The weather was beautiful, the sun was shining brightly, and there were many children in the park. Mitya followed the ball with his eyes and was greatly surprised when it suddenly disappeared. He clearly saw: the ball was flying along, no one was touching it, when suddenly — poof — and it was gone.
If only he could go up to his mom and ask: "What is this magical ball?", but he doesn't know how to talk yet, and he can't point with his finger and show her because the ball has already disappeared. So he'll have to figure it out himself.
Mitya carefully explored the playground. He ran past the sandbox, climbed up the slide to see better, and even slid down it, just in case. He walked past the swings where older girls were flying high up in the air. The magical ball was nowhere to be seen.
Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, he noticed something glinting near a bench. Without hesitating for a second, he headed there. And he was right. Before his eyes unfolded an amazing sight: many small and larger transparent balls were flying up into the sky and disappearing. Some balls fell to the ground and immediately vanished from sight.
But the most amazing thing was that these balls were being created by a little girl, not much older than Mitya himself. She was releasing them from a small round stick. "She must be a sorceress," thought the little boy.
He really wanted to go and touch these unusual flying balls. Just then, one of them flew past him. Mitya took a few steps and stretched out his tiny hands and almost caught the ball, but it suddenly disappeared again. Mitya felt only wet spray on his hands. No matter how hard he tried to catch the ball, as soon as he touched it, it would pop.
The girl blowing bubbles saw how interested Mitya was in catching them. She blew a big, big bubble and caught it with her bubble wand. Mitya watched her as if mesmerized. "Definitely a sorceress," he thought. The girl brought the bubble closer to Mitya so he could see it better.
He saw how the ball shimmered with all the colors of the rainbow, colors whose names Mitya didn't yet know. In this ball was an entire world, only upside down. But as soon as Mitya reached his little hand toward the bubble, it popped again. Upset, the little boy cried. He too wanted to master this unprecedented magic.
Hearing Mitya's crying, his mom came running right away.
There you are, little one, I've been looking for you all over the playground, — she said, picking up the baby in her arms.
Mitya pointed his finger at the bubbles flying around.
Bub-bles, — his mom pronounced it in syllables, — Did you like the bubbles?
Mitya smiled in response. He didn't know how to tell his mom how much he loved these flying magical balls.
Let's go buy you some bubbles, — said mom.
Getting his own bubbles, Mitya was very happy. He didn't yet know how to blow them, and whenever he wanted to see the shimmering balls again, he would go to his mom and hand her the bottle. Mom would always catch some bubbles on the stick and they would look at them together. And sometimes she would even make entire figures out of soap bubbles. Mitya loved this.
He was sure that very soon he would be able to learn to blow them himself. You just have to want it very much — and everything will work out!
