The day was coming to an end and as always there were bath time, a bedtime story, and sweet sleep. But for some reason, the girl Evangelia couldn't fall asleep at all. She tossed and turned from side to side, waiting for sleep that was taking its time.
Then a breeze slipped through the window, rustled the curtain, and the door creaked open. A black nose appeared—it was Toddy, the dog who carefully guarded Evangelia's sleep.
Oh, it's you?! I was about to get scared.
Said Evangelia. Just as she was about to adjust her pillow and lie down more comfortably, she noticed a bright ray of moonlight breaking through the gap in the curtain. It seemed to smile and invite her to go up and visit the moon. That would be simply wonderful, thought the girl.
Toddy rested his snout on the bed and said:
Hop on!
Evangelia was very curious. Even though I'm only four, I'm not afraid. Evangelia climbed onto the dog's back and... oh, a miracle! There they were already rushing upward, the breeze untangling her braids, the moonlight making her squint.
How beautiful!
Evangelia had just spoken when the bright moonlight illuminated large clouds, and on them were many small, interesting, bright little beings with wings.
"Who could this be?" flashed through the girl's mind. In response to her silent question, she heard thin voices:
Greetings, little Evangelia! We are tiny moon fairies. Will you be our friend?
One of the tiny fairies flew up to Evangelia and blew a feather from her palm.
Catch it. If you want to see us, blow on the feather three times.
Said the little fairy.
Oh, this is a dream, of course it's a dream!
Said Evangelia. Then Toddy barked, and Evangelia opened her eyes. She was lying in her bed, and beside her Toddy was wagging his tail.
Yes, it was a magical dream!
The girl said and threw off her blanket to get out of bed. She noticed a feather on her pillow, exactly like the one in her dream.
What is this?
Evangelia said in surprise.
It's simply a miracle!
The girl exclaimed.
Now I will believe in miracles. I wasn't wrong when I told Mom that magic lives all around us. And this feather is proof of it.
She jumped down, slipped her feet into her slippers, and ran happily to tell her mother.
Evangelia understood that great, interesting, and exciting adventures awaited her ahead.
