How a Dropout Became a Sailor and Forgot About His Family

Author:
An original instructive fairy tale about a sailor who loved his service more than his own family — his wife and little son. But the story began when they were still a boy and a girl.

In one of the cities located near the sea, there lived a boy named Zhenya, who spent every free minute by the sea. He would simply sit and watch the waves ripple. He really loved the sound of the surf. Zhenya dreamed that when he grew up, he would become a brave ship captain and boldly sail the seas and oceans.

The boy often skipped school. His parents tried to explain to him that studying was very important. But he didn't want to listen to anyone. And when Zhenya finished school with very poor marks on his report card, he wasn't very upset. After all, he believed that a sailor didn't need all these sciences. But he was very wrong.

When the boy came to the dock hoping to join the crew of any ship, they only laughed at him. It turned out that to become even a simple sailor, one had to undergo serious training.

Zhenya tried to enrol in an institute, but with such grades, no institute would accept him. And so he remained a dropout. And his dream of becoming a real sailor was over. But he never stopped coming to the sea every day.

One day at the dock, he saw a beautiful stranger. Her eyes were the colour of the sea, so Zhenya immediately fell in love with her. He approached and introduced himself to the girl. Her name was Maria. It turned out that she was studying to be an artist and loved to paint the sea.

The young people fell in love with each other and soon married. Some time later, they had a son. But then war came and everyone was being taken into ship crews. Zhenya decided that now his dream would surely come true. He went to the dock to sign up for a crew. Maria was horrified. She was left alone with a small child in her arms, while the family's breadwinner was abandoning them.

Please, think carefully.

Maria cried.

You don't understand... This is the dream of my whole life. I've wanted to be a sailor since childhood, but they wouldn't take me. I can't miss such an opportunity.

Zhenya packed up and left. He was accepted into the crew as a sailor, and that same day the ship set sail. Zhenya was very happy; he was at sea for a very long time. Time passed. Over the three years he spent at sea, he never once went ashore. Not because he couldn't, simply because he didn't want to. He completely forgot about his wife and his little son.

But Maria did not forget her husband. She would ask sailor friends about him. She would find out when the ship her husband was sailing on would dock and would come to the port and watch her husband and their son's father from a distance. She loved him very much, and so she accepted his choice.

One day, the ship where Zhenya was a sailor was attacked by pirates. They captured the vessel and simply threw the crew overboard. Zhenya drifted for a long time and managed with his last strength to reach land. He didn't know where he was; there was no settlement nearby. He decided to stay on the shore, as he was sure that his comrades would search for him.

But the rescued crew members were in no hurry to search for the sailor. They first went to the hospital, where they were examined, and then each stayed with their own family, as they were all given time to rest. And only Maria, learning of what had happened, set out to find her husband. She borrowed a motorboat from acquaintances and began searching in the areas near where the ship was attacked. A week later, she found Zhenya. He was exhausted and very weak.

When he saw from the shore the boat approaching him, he was very happy. And seeing Maria in the boat, Zhenya threw himself at her feet and began to beg for forgiveness. She forgave him, and they began to live together again.

The most important thing in life is family.

Your loved ones will never abandon you in times of trouble, even if you once greatly hurt them or abandoned them like our fairy tale hero.
