There was a family living in a village on the edge of a forest. They lived poorly, but very harmoniously. One night, during a harsh frost, a lonely traveler knocked on their door. He asked for shelter for the night, and the owners let the lonely traveler into the house, fed him with soup, and put him to bed.
It was cold in the house, and the children slept huddled together to keep warm.
The lonely traveler, in gratitude for the shelter, left magical stones called slate and said that if you put a little slate in the stove, the house would always be warm.
In the summer, when the children played in the yard, they found many stones, and the father made tiles from this stone and lined the old house with it. The house became very beautiful and warm, and the owner also laid the paths near the house with the magical stone.
One day the landowner decided to ride through his estates and saw a beautiful little house. Envy seized him that a simple person had something so beautiful.
The jealous landowner took the stones from the poor man. He forced him to line his entire house, paths, and even forced him to line the stove with slate. The landowner did not know that the stone was magical and did not like evil people.
As soon as they lit the stove, the house burst into flames and burned down, and the landowner barely managed to escape.
Then the landowner understood that the evil he had brought upon the poor man had returned to him! And the magical slate stone had punished him!
