In one godforsaken village, in the mountains, there lived a poor peasant who dreamed of becoming a musician. And, having saved up the necessary sum, he purchased a wooden pipe from a shop.
At first, the peasant could only produce hissing sounds from the pipe, but he did not give up and practised playing every day.
And over time, he learned to play so skilfully that the clear melodies of the pipe delighted the ear, and the hearts of even the grumpiest villagers would begin to smile when they heard the beautiful melody.
But one fine evening, when the pipe was producing its enchanting sounds, a neighbouring king was passing by the village on some important business, and he became captivated by the musician's wonderful playing.
Seeing the peasant, he stopped his chariot and beckoned him over.
When he approached, the king asked:
Who are you?
I am a shepherd
Replied the peasant
And what is this marvellous melody coming from your pipe?
Asked the king
I composed it myself
Said the peasant
The king asked the peasant to play once more.
The peasant agreed, took out his pipe and began to play.
The melody produced by the pipe was so tender and touching that the king and his retinue's hearts trembled. And when the peasant finished playing, each of them could not help but shed tears.
How beautiful are the sounds of your pipe!
Said the king
I have never heard anything like it. Would you not like to become my court musician? I shall reward you generously for your playing.
Oh, your majesty!
Replied the peasant
Of course! with the greatest pleasure! I am delighted to be able to do you such an honour!
And the peasant was taken to the palace, where he delighted people with his magnificent playing.
From that day on, he lived long and happily.
Remember, children! Never give up in the face of difficulties and then you will achieve your goal.
