A hare bounded beneath the fir tree.
«Nearly midnight," the wolf suggested.
Though winter had brought bitter frost,
Everyone wondered: "Will Father Frost come?"
The fox rushed to the green fir tree,
She heard the voices of creatures in the forest:
«What's happened with you all here, friends?
Wolf, tell me, holding nothing back".
The wolf looked at the cunning fox:
"Your question, I simply don't understand.
You've grown rather old,
Have you forgotten the holiday? It's winter now".
The hedgehog gave explanation to the fox:
«We, at New Year, are all friends in the forest.
We wait for Father Frost together here,
And we're calling you to join us in chorus.
Grandfather comes to the fir tree once a year,
Wishes everyone good health ahead,
Gives out gifts and makes us all laugh,
And surprises us with his granddaughter, the Snow Maiden.
First grandfather rushes to the village,
Then to the cities—they're all fortunate,
And only then does he come to the forests,
So wait, Mistress Fox".
Winter is dull in every forest.
Creatures snuffle, waiting for warmth and spring,
But at New Year, the forest without trouble,
Beneath the green fir tree, a circle dance begins.
Father Frost returns home by morning.
Of course, he's tired, he's lived many years.
He doesn't rest idly all year.
He prepares gifts for the next journey.
