A handsome and swift as the wind Hare lived in an enormous dense forest. The grey Hare lived alone in his little home and dreamed of meeting his beloved.
Every day the Hare would leave his dwelling in search of food, and on weekends he would venture out to a meadow, where other hares often gathered to spend time together in a fun and interesting way.
The meadow was very beautiful. Flowers grew everywhere there, their fragrance spreading throughout the forest, and tall green grass protected the hares from the hot sun.
And so one day the Hare set off once again to the Sunday meadow. He lay down under the tall grass, plucking a few flowers to enjoy their wonderful scent.
The Hare lay there dreaming of meeting a beautiful doe Hare. And suddenly, like a bolt from the blue, something soft and warm fell on him. The Hare jumped up and saw that a doe Hare was lying on the grass.
Have you lost your mind? Don't you see that respectable hares are resting here?
The Hare asked cautiously.
I'm sorry. I was so distracted by that flower over there that I didn't notice you in the tall grass.
The doe Hare hurried to apologize.
Well, never mind then. You're not heavy at all, I'm perfectly fine! Perhaps we could admire the flowers in the meadow together, and then go for a walk. The sun is so hot, I'm worried my ears might get burned and that would hurt terribly.
I wouldn't mind.
The doe Hare was delighted. She clearly liked the Hare. And no wonder, for he was the most handsome in the entire forest.
Together the doe Hare and the Hare strolled through the meadow, admired the flowers, and then went for a walk along a shaded path to protect their ears from the sun. And so they walked together every day. The Hare gave the doe Hare bouquets of carrots and cabbage, and then he finally gathered his courage and confessed that he had fallen in love.
You are the most beautiful doe Hare in the world! I love you!
The Hare cried out joyfully with almost every step.
But the doe Hare had never said such a thing to the Hare before. She was afraid that the Hare was mistaken, and that he wasn't really in love at all.
Well, Hare, you can certainly say whatever you like. But I'm not entirely sure that you really love me!
The Hare became upset and fell silent. He was so hurt that he couldn't even think of a response. They walked silently through the meadow, stopping by each beautiful flower, and didn't notice how the sun came directly overhead. And when the Hare walked the doe Hare home, he suddenly saw that her ears had turned burgundy, like cherries.
Doe Hare, what's wrong with your ears?
The Hare asked in alarm.
The doe Hare wanted to touch her ear with her paw, but it hurt so much that she cried out.
The Hare touched the doe Hare's forehead and his eyes became round like coins.
You have a fever! You need medical attention right away, and your ears need to be treated with some cream.
The doe Hare was in so much pain that she didn't even hear what the Hare was saying. Her vision darkened, and she fainted.
Opening her eyes, the doe Hare began to remember what had happened to her. Now she was lying in her soft, cosy bed, and on a small table beside her was a bouquet of carrots.
The doe Hare tried to touch her ears and immediately noticed that it didn't hurt at all. Her fever was gone, and she felt very well.
And then she heard careful footsteps, and the Hare's head appeared in the doorway.
Doe Hare, my dear, you've finally woken up!
My ears don't hurt at all anymore, and I don't seem to have a fever. But how did you get here and where did this wonderful bouquet of carrots on my table come from?
Well, where else! I wanted you to be happy and eat something when you woke up. I love you so much and I was so worried about you.
And the doe Hare understood that the Hare truly loved her very much. After all, only those who are in love are willing to help and save someone in a difficult moment! He saved her, and now they will live long and happily ever after! And a few weeks later, the doe Hare and the Hare got married, and very soon they had a whole bunch of little fluffy baby hares!
