The Autumn Leaf

Author:
A contemporary original fairy tale about a little leaf for children ages 5-6 who didn't want to leave their favourite spot on the tree branch. But then Autumn arrived!

Warm spring sunshine warmed things up and tickled the bud. The little leaf became very curious about what was happening outside. Out it popped from its cocoon, and it liked the outside so much that it decided never to return to its home again.

After the first spring rain, the young leaf felt that it had become even stronger and more beautiful, and little birds would land on the tree branch to look at it.

All summer the tree leaf had fun. So many forest creatures and birds passed by and flew past during all that time, and it was very interesting for the leaf to chat with them all.

And our little leaf didn't notice how autumn had arrived, with the birds hurrying off to warmer lands. The leaf began to turn yellow, but it tried with all its might to hold on to the branch. But one cold morning a strong wind blew and tore the leaf away.

With sadness, the yellow autumn leaf swirled above its native tree, and the wind carried it further. A flock of birds flew past and the little leaf wanted to fly south with them, but it had less and less strength. It landed on an old stump and saw that all the forest inhabitants were bustling about, storing up supplies for the long winter. Even the fearsome bear was preparing for hibernation.

But the leaf didn't want to spend all winter on the old stump, and as soon as the sun touched it with its first morning rays, the autumn breeze picked it up again and lifted it above the forest. It was very interesting for the leaf to look at its native forest from above, and it saw all the forest dwellers. And the little leaf didn't want to leave its Homeland at all, the place where it was born.

And it asked the wind to set it back down on the ground. The breeze understood everything and lowered the traveller into a burrow with the young rabbits. During winter, our little leaf wasn't bored at all, because it became the favourite toy of the young rabbits.
