Once upon a time there was a boy named Vanya. His parents gave him a puppy named Druzhok, who was smart and affectionate. The boy went to school, and the adults went to work. Druzhok stayed home alone, feeling sad and lonely. There was nothing to do but sit by the window all day long and watch the cars and pedestrians. The windows faced the roadway, where a traffic light was installed.
One day Vanya and his mom were in a hurry and didn't close the door behind them. Druzhok was so curious that he decided to go outside and find his owners. The puppy looked around, but didn't see any familiar faces.
They must be on the other side of the street.
Druzhok thought.
But how do I get there? How do I cross the road when cars are moving at high speed?
The puppy looked up and saw a stern red light. People were gathering on the sidewalk. They probably also needed to get to the other side. The red light went out, the green light came on, and all the pedestrians stepped onto the roadway. Druzhok ran too.
His joy knew no bounds—on the other side of the street, Druzhok met Vanya and his mom.
The boy picked up his beloved puppy in his arms and began to explain:
You see, there are three lights there—that's a traffic light. This is a busy intersection and you can't cross the road without it. Remember: if the red light is on—stop and wait. As soon as the green light comes on—look both ways and go confidently. Remember, you should only cross the road at pedestrian crossings.
And how do you know all this?
The puppy asked in surprise.
I'm already grown up. We learn these traffic rules in school.
The boy answered.
And so Druzhok became acquainted with the traffic light and the rules for crossing to the other side of the street.
