Once upon a time, in a dense forest on a strawberry clearing, there lived two friends — Hamster and Butterfly. One day, Butterfly suggested going on a hiking trip.
They reckon there are real wonders hidden beyond those tall trees. We'll see so much — enough memories to last us a year!
At first, cautious Hamster had his doubts, but then he too wanted to see the forest wonders.
No sooner said than done. The next morning, as soon as the sun rose over the strawberry clearing, they set off.
The forest track led them further and further towards adventure. Hamster looked around — he was surrounded by a clearing covered in white mushrooms. He rushed to collect them, forgetting everything else. After gathering them, he looked around — and Butterfly had vanished! When he called out, his mate appeared, rather cross.
What were you mucking about with back there? I've already flown past three clearings like that! At this rate, we won't get anywhere at all!
After lunch, the sun began to sink towards the horizon. Hamster spotted a clearing covered in wonderful blueberries — so delicious and large, the likes of which our hero had never seen back home. Having learnt his lesson, he asked Butterfly not to fly off and to help him.
Butterfly agreed, but she wasn't much help — whilst Hamster patiently collected berries, she just flitted from one bush to another. Hamster divided all the collected bounty into two bundles: one for himself, and a smaller one for Butterfly. And once again, she was unhappy: the heavy bundle made it awkward for her to fly. For the rest of the journey until evening, she whined and complained.
Evening approached. The friends stopped to choose a spot for the night in a lovely corner, near a stream. But this didn't improve Butterfly's mood one bit.
We've wasted the whole day on your silly stops! First you had to collect mushrooms, then berries. Because of this, we've barely seen anything! And I nearly broke my wing because of your ridiculous berries.
And then Hamster had had enough.
And what exactly will you eat without my mushrooms and berries? If you want to flit from tree to tree — go ahead, let's each go our own way. Only you won't last long without supplies!
Butterfly wouldn't back down.
Me, not last long? You're the one who won't last without me! I can fly up and see where we need to go! That is, of course, if I'm not loaded down with kilograms of berries. Without me, you'd get lost in your own backyard.
And then it suddenly dawned on Hamster.
Right, if you don't scout ahead, we'll get lost. But if I don't gather supplies for us, we'll starve. Getting lost is bad, starving is no better. So maybe, instead of arguing, we should combine our efforts?
After thinking it over, Butterfly agreed.
As soon as the sun rose, the friends set off again. Now Butterfly didn't slack off when Hamster found a clearing with forest treasures: during that time, she'd rise above the trees and look to see where they should go next. Each friend carried their share of the common bounty.
A week later, they returned happy and full of experiences! The animals marvelled at their stories and asked: what was the main lesson the friends had learnt during their travels?
Hamster and Butterfly answered, after thinking it over.
True friendship only grows stronger through challenges! And it helps overcome obstacles that one couldn't manage alone. That's what matters most!
From then on, all the animals in the forest learnt to value friendship even more.
