Winter had finally arrived. The first fluffy snow had fallen. The trees were dressed in white coats. Outside it looked like a fairy tale. Everyone, especially the children, were delighted with the fresh snow.
Mum, said the boy Sasha, look how beautiful it is outside the window! Shall we go and play in the snow?
Mum agreed. They dressed warmly, grabbed their sledges and headed outside.
Many children were playing in the yard. Some were sledging down the hill, others were building a snowman, and still others were building a fort. Everyone was laughing and having fun. It seemed as though joy and happiness had lit up the whole world!
Sasha! Sasha! Come over here quickly! – the other children called to the boy.
Sasha ran over to his friends. Together they built a big snowman. They made the nose from a carrot, the eyes from pine cones, and drew a smile on his face. The snowman turned out wonderfully – just like he was alive. The children even thought he winked at them. This made everyone's mood even better. After all, such miracles only happen in fairy tales… Maybe this really was a real fairy tale?..
In the evening the children went home. And then a miracle happened. From under the fir tree that grew in the yard, a little gnome appeared in a red coat and a red hat. He was holding a little notebook in his hands. With small clumsy steps he walked up to the snowman and smiled.
Hello, Snowman! I'm Father Frost's helper. I've come from the city of Veliky Ustyug. It's the home of our winter wizard! Please tell me, how did the children who built you behave? Did they hurt anyone or were they kind and polite?
Hello, Gnome! – replied the Snowman. – The children in this yard are very good. They were so happy about the first snow! And what interesting games they played! No one even fought! Everyone was happy! I couldn't help myself and winked at them...
Oh! Snowman! You can't do that! The children mustn't know that we exist!
Gnome, I'm sorry, but I couldn't resist the children's smiles, – the Snowman replied sadly.
Never mind, – the Gnome reassured him. – I'm very pleased that the children here are good and well-behaved. I'll write the names of these boys and girls in my magic notebook. I'll give the list to Father Frost. And when New Year comes and the coloured lights light up on the trees, each child will receive a gift of whatever they wish for most!
How wonderful it is to receive gifts! – the Snowman said happily.
The long-awaited holiday arrived – New Year. In every home there was the smell of pine needles, mandarins and delicious food. Everywhere was full of joy! Sasha's family was also looking forward to the celebration.
Together with his mum the boy decorated the tree. And under the tree he put an envelope with a letter for Father Frost. Sasha dreamed of a remote-controlled car and hoped that his wish would definitely come true. He had behaved well all year: he helped his parents, didn't hurt animals and even tried not to quarrel with other children in the yard. After all, he knew that Father Frost and his helpers see everything.
On the morning of the first of January, Sasha, before he'd even properly woken up, ran to the tree. And – oh, a miracle! In a big beautiful box was waiting a car! The boy cried with joy: his dream had come true!
Sasha understood that wishes come true, the main thing is to work towards them: do only good deeds, be a kind person and sincerely believe in miracles.
Don't be afraid to dream! The brighter the dream, the closer it is to coming true!
