Autumn Leaf

Author:
A contemporary fairy tale about a little leaf for children aged 5-6 years old who didn't want to leave his favourite spot on the tree branch. But then Autumn arrived!

Warm spring sunshine warmed things up and tickled the bud. The little leaf became very curious about what was happening outside. Out he popped from his cocoon, and he liked the outside so much that he decided never to return to his little home again.

After the first spring rain, the young leaf felt himself becoming even stronger and more beautiful, and little birds would land on the tree branch to have a look at him.

All summer long the tree leaf had a wonderful time. So many forest creatures and birds passed by and flew past him during all that time, and he found it fascinating to chat with them all.

And our little leaf didn't notice how autumn had arrived, with the birds hurrying off to warmer lands. The leaf began to turn yellow, but he tried with all his might to hold on to the branch. But one cold morning a strong wind blew and tore the leaf away.

With sadness the yellow autumn leaf swirled above his native tree, and the wind carried him further away. A flock of birds flew past and the little leaf wanted to fly south with them, but his strength was fading, so he settled on an old tree stump and saw that all the forest inhabitants were bustling about, storing up supplies for the long winter. Even the fearsome bear was preparing for hibernation.

But the leaf didn't fancy spending the whole winter on an old stump, and as soon as the sun touched his side with its first morning rays, the autumn breeze caught him again and lifted him above the forest. He was very curious to see his native forest from above, and he could see all the forest creatures. And the little leaf didn't want to leave his Homeland at all, the place where he was born.

So he asked the wind to set him down again, on the ground. The breeze understood everything and lowered the little traveller into a burrow with the young rabbits. During winter our little leaf wasn't bored at all, because he became the favourite toy of the little rabbits.
