The Goat, the Goatlings, and the Gray Wolf

Author:
A modern fairy tale of 'The Wolf and the Seven Little Goats' reimagined for today, about how a goat and her seven goatlings defeated a wolf with the help of gadgets. Primarily for disobedient children.

In a beautiful, modern forest lived a goat and seven little goatlings. The forest was called modern because the animals here lived in beautiful houses filled with technology, and each had a mobile phone or tablet. The goat had the most modern home of all, because she worked at a factory producing various forest gadgets.

For her goatlings' birthday, the goat gave them smartwatches with video capability, so she could safely leave them home alone and watch them on a monitor.

Every day when leaving for work, the goat would say:

Little goatlings, my dears, I'm going to work while you stay here alone. Don't open the door to anyone, especially not the wolf. Don't go outside without me, and keep the house tidy.

Alright, mama. We'll behave well.

The goatlings would reply.

Now show me your smartwatches! Are you all wearing them? I want to see you every minute and know what's happening there!

The goat would ask anxiously.

Yes, everything's fine!

The goatlings would answer, showing their little hooves with the shiny, bright devices gleaming on them.

Days passed this way—the goat went to work while the goatlings played at home under her watchful control.

Then one fine day, when the goat had left early in the morning, a wolf came running past the house.

Cold, hungry, wandering through the forest. I'm starving, with nowhere to sleep! What should I do?

The wolf howled mournfully.

Oh, here's the little house of our hardworking goat and her goatlings. I wonder who's home?

The wolf approached the door and knocked softly.

Who's there?

The smallest goatling answered in a gentle voice.

Mailman, I have a message from your mother.

The wolf replied.

The goatlings approached the door and listened, when one of them suddenly said:

That's not true. We talk to our mother through our smartwatches, and if she needed to tell us something, she would definitely call us.

We won't open up, go away, you liar!

The goatlings cried out in unison.

What should I do?

The wolf muttered quietly to himself.

Maybe I could pretend to be a kind wizard who brought little children gifts?

The wolf thought and headed toward the goat's house again.

Who's there?

The goatlings answered in chorus at the knock on the door.

It's me—a kind wizard. I want to give you many gifts because you behave so well.

What gifts did you bring us?

The goatlings asked with interest.

Oh, there are so many, I couldn't list them all. A beautiful computer, a big gyroscooter with glowing wheels, and a new music player with built-in super-powerful speakers.

The wolf answered.

Wow! I've always wanted a gyroscooter to ride around the forest on.

One of the goatlings beamed with joy.

And I've been dreaming of getting a music player, one that plays music loud enough for the whole forest to hear!

Another goatling rejoiced.

And only one, the very youngest, looked at the door anxiously and suddenly cried out:

What if it's the evil wolf trying to trick us? We open the door and he grabs us and eats us all.

Ha-ha-ha!!! A wolf? He's never even heard of gyroscooters, tablets, or players in his life. He's as ancient as the oak tree by our house.

The goatlings laughed. Together they approached the door, unlocked it, and a huge gray wolf appeared on the threshold.

The goatlings screamed and squealed, but the wolf was already inside the room. He roared so loudly that the little ones shut their eyes in fear. The wolf opened his mouth, pounced on the goatlings, and swallowed them all in one gulp. Only the smallest goatling managed to jump into a backpack that the children used for forest walks.

Oh, what a cute little bag!

The wolf glanced at the backpack where the little one was hiding.

I'll take this for myself. It'll be useful for hunting such foolish and defenseless creatures.

The wolf grabbed the backpack and left the house. The wolf had swallowed the little goatlings so quickly that they couldn't even move inside his belly. But the little goatling in the backpack was thinking of a plan to tell his mother what had happened. Finally, a brilliant idea came to him.

He remembered that he had smartwatches and could call his mother-goat through them.

The goatling quietly pressed the call button and half a minute later heard:

Hello, children, how are you doing?

The goat answered in a calm voice.

The goatling couldn't answer her because the wolf would hear. The little one quietly unzipped the backpack, stuck out his little hoof with the smartwatch, and turned on the video. All the way, the wolf was humming something to himself, while the goat urgently prepared to help her children. As soon as she saw the fluffy gray tail, she understood everything.

Meanwhile, the wolf reached his home. Throwing the backpack on the floor, the wolf lay down on his soft bed and began to snore. As soon as he fell asleep, the little goatling jumped out of the backpack and called his mother again.

Hello, mommy, dear mama! Something terrible happened!

The goatling whispered hurriedly.

I know, I understand that the gray wolf took you. Where are the other goatlings?

The goat asked.

They're in the wolf's belly, he swallowed them all at once.

The goatling cried.

I know what to do. I'll call all the goatlings in the wolf's belly at once. The smartwatches will play so loudly that the wolf will want to spit out our babies no matter what. And by then I'll arrive with reinforcements.

The goat dialed six numbers at once, and loud music erupted in the wolf's belly.

Oh, what's wrong with my stomach?

The wolf woke up immediately.

I can't take it, help me someone!!! I can't do this anymore!!!!

The wolf ran from corner to corner, not understanding what was happening. And loud music was playing in his belly too. The wolf rushed from corner to corner, holding his stomach and then his head. And suddenly, completely losing control, the wolf crashed into a chair so hard that his belly burst open, and six goatlings he had swallowed jumped right out.

At that moment, the goat burst into the house with reinforcements—they grabbed the wolf and tied him up with ropes. By then, the animal police had arrived at the wolf's house and took the villain to a special department from which such bandits could never escape.

From that day on, the goatlings never opened the door to strangers again. They always obeyed their mother and never took off their smartwatches, which had helped them defeat the gray wolf.
