In a small town nestled in a beautiful scenic location, there lived a six-year-old girl named Lily. The town was quite small, with very few residents, and most surprisingly, there were no other children living there. Lily often felt sad because she had never had the chance to play with other kids in her life.
The girl lived with her mom and dad, who went to work every day and couldn't spend all their time playing with their daughter. Lily also had a nanny who spent all her free time with her.
Since the girl had no friends her own age with whom she could share secrets and play fun games, she began growing flowers—lilies.
She created a beautiful flower bed where many different varieties and colors grew. There were yellow, white, purple, pink, and even blue lilies, and the girl tended to them and watered them every day.
She loved her flowers so much that she called them her best friends, talked to them, and shared the deepest secrets of her heart.
Lily also desperately wished for a miracle to happen—for children to appear in her town so she would have someone to play with.
She would come to the flower bed and tell the flowers:
My dear lilies, how I've missed you! How have you been without me? What happened to you while I was sleeping and having breakfast? You know, I dream so much about children appearing in our town, so we could all come visit you together.
One day, after her usual visit to her flower friends, Lily went to her room. In the evenings, her nanny would read her a story, a different one each night. Then Lily would settle in comfortably, her nanny would tuck her in with a soft blanket, and the girl would fall fast asleep thinking about her only true friends.
Morning came, and Lily woke up early as usual, went downstairs to the first floor where a delicious breakfast prepared by her nanny awaited her.
Good morning! What a wonderful day! Nanny, have you been out to see my flowers yet? How are they without me?
The girl exclaimed.
Good morning, sunshine! No, I haven't visited the lilies yet, because you like to be the first to come to them and water each flower yourself.
Well then, hurry and feed me, Nanny, and I'll run to my friends!
Lily quickly ate the delicious cheese pancakes with jam that her nanny had prepared and rushed off to visit her magnificent lilies.
Grabbing her watering can, the girl skipped over to the flower bed and called out:
How did you sleep, little flowers? Were you cold?
The lilies only swayed in the wind and didn't answer the girl. And suddenly, as Lily was watering one of the flowers, a gentle voice rang out:
Hello, beautiful Lily!
The girl didn't understand who was speaking to her, but the voice sounded quite childlike.
Who's there?
The girl asked thoughtfully.
It's me, the lily you're watering.
A gentle, childlike voice answered.
Can this really be true? Or have I found myself in a fairy tale!? Can flowers really talk?
Lily thought in amazement.
You take care of us every day, water us, tell us interesting stories, and share your dreams with us. Now let us do something good for you and make your wishes come true!
Another voice was heard—it was another lily.
Lily turned and suddenly saw a sandbox nearby in the neighboring yard, where no one had ever lived before—the house had stood abandoned. In the sandbox, two children were playing—a boy and a girl, about six or seven years old, just like Lily.
Hi, Lily! Let's get acquainted! We're your new neighbors, and now we'll be living here with our parents.
The boy suddenly called out.
Hi!
Lily answered thoughtfully.
She turned her head toward the flowers.
How did you do this? How did you make it so that more children appeared in our town?
We saw how much you dreamed about it! When you told us about the fairy tales your nanny reads to you before bed, we thought you didn't believe in miracles or even in fairy tales. But among us is a lily named Fairy Tale, and it was she who made your dream come true, and now more children have appeared in this town.
The pink lily answered.
Lily couldn't contain her joy. She leaned down to her flowers and kissed each one.
Which one of you is Fairy Tale?
The girl asked.
I am.
A wonderful voice was heard, gentle and tender.
Before the girl's eyes, a large turquoise lily suddenly bloomed, with more buds on its stem than any other.
From that day on, Lily became friends with the new children, who became her companions. But she never forgot her former, best, and truest friends—the flowers. She continued to care for them and hurry to them in the mornings, right after waking up.
And Lily also learned that miracles do happen in the world, and that all the fairy tales her nanny tells her before bed are actually all around us.
Read fairy tales and let kindness fill your souls.
