In a small town there lived a family: mum, dad and a little girl called Masha. Not far from their home were several lakes, where residents went for picnics in summer. In winter, children would run there to go ice skating, to show off what they'd learnt, and who could skate the fastest.
Masha was one of the best, because when she was just four years old, her dad gave her the most expensive skates in the shop for her birthday. And from then on, every winter's day, when the water was covered with thick ice, the girl would go skating with her dad.
When she was very young, Masha saw an interesting programme on the telly, where beautiful girl figure skaters twirled on the ice to loud, beautiful music. The things they did: spinning and performing all sorts of difficult tricks.
And Masha especially loved it when the girl figure skaters danced on the ice with their partners — boys. Masha could sit in front of the telly for hours, eyes glued to the screen, and all that time she dreamt of learning to skate as beautifully as all those children on the television.
Masha also waited for when she would finally turn seven and could go to a special school, where a beautiful young woman taught children like her to skate on ice and perform the most beautiful tricks to music.
And then that long-awaited day arrived — Masha turned seven.
Mummy, Daddy!
Waking up, the girl ran into the living room and shouted at the top of her voice.
It's my birthday today, I'm a whole seven years old. I can go to lessons with that beautiful lady who teaches children like me to skate beautifully on ice, can't I?
Mum and Dad looked at their daughter with a smile.
Well, we've prepared a present for you. But you must be a magician, since you've guessed what's waiting for you.
Mum laughed.
Today we're going to your first lesson, where you'll put on your skates and train with the group.
Hurray, hurray, this day has finally come!
Masha was delighted and rushed off to change out of her pyjamas. Within fifteen minutes she was standing in the hallway, washed, fed and dressed, ready for new experiences and achievements.
From then on, Masha began attending lessons. And from then on, the girl had a dream — she wanted to become the very best figure skater. To achieve this, Masha practised extra on her own, when all the other children went home after lessons.
The girl would go to the lake with her dad and work on her skating technique independently, without the teacher.
One day, on a cold winter's day, when the sun appeared in the sky but the frost didn't let up, and group figure skating lessons were cancelled because of the severe cold, Masha decided to go skating.
Dad! Daddy! Are we going to the rink today?
As soon as she opened her eyes, Masha shouted, without getting out of bed.
Have you done your homework? Come on, do your work first, and then we'll go to your rink!
Dad replied to Masha.
Dad, we weren't given any homework, we can go out right now.
Masha stood her ground.
But Dad didn't hear Masha's answer and assumed his daughter had got on with her homework.
Meanwhile, Masha quietly got ready, dressed warmly, took her beautiful skates and set off to the lake on her own.
I'll just skate for a bit on my own, not for long, and no one will notice I'm not at home.
Masha ran to the lake, put on her skates and went out onto the ice. The girl was already quite confident on the ice, she could skate very fast and even spin. And suddenly, beneath her feet she heard a loud crack, and an enormous fissure appeared before her. Before Masha could blink, she suddenly fell into an abyss and lost consciousness.
Masha opened her eyes — everything around her was shining. The girl looked around, she couldn't understand where she'd ended up. Only the huge blocks of ice around her resembled a real cave. Masha carefully stood up, and suddenly, before her eyes appeared a beautiful woman in a white flowing dress. On her head was a crown that sparkled like diamonds.
Hello, Masha. I've been watching you for a long time, you try very hard and you skate very beautifully.
The woman said in a cold tone.
For some reason, Masha wasn't frightened at all.
Hello, thank you. I really want to become a real figure skater and skate better than everyone, so that I'm shown on the telly and the whole town applauds me.
The girl replied.
Would you like me to help you?
The woman suddenly asked.
She waved her arms, her crown lit up with bright colours, and Masha suddenly transformed into a beautiful figure skater in a sparkling blue dress. Around her suddenly appeared many spectators, who clapped and shouted:
Masha, you're the best and the most beautiful!
Masha closed her eyes for a moment, and she so wanted this happiness to last as long as possible.
And suddenly, opening her eyes, Masha found herself in her room.
Was it all just a dream?
The girl wondered.
Then she turned her gaze to the bedside table. On it she saw wonderful new skates with a beautiful pattern. Next to the skates lay a performance dress in bright blue, exactly the same as she'd just dreamt about.
That was the real Queen of Winter, who makes dreams come true!
Masha realised and smiled quietly, because her dream had come true.
Read fairy tales and your dreams will become reality.
