In a beautiful, modern forest there lived a goat and seven kids. The forest was called modern because the animals here lived in beautiful houses filled with technology, and each had a mobile phone or tablet. The goat had the most modern home of all, because she worked at a factory producing various forest gadgets.
For her kids' birthday, the goat gave them smartwatches with video display, so she could safely leave them at home alone and watch them on a monitor.
Every day, when the goat left for work, she would say:
Little kids, my dears, I'm going to work and you're staying here alone. Don't open the door to anyone, especially not the wolf. Don't go outside without me, and keep the house tidy.
Alright, Mum. We'll behave well.
The kids would reply.
Now show me your smartwatches! Are you all wearing them? I want to see you every minute and know what's happening there!
The goat would ask anxiously.
Yes, everything's fine!
The kids would reply, showing their little hooves with the shiny, bright devices gleaming on them.
Days passed like this — the goat went to work, and the kids played at home under her careful supervision.
Then one fine day, when the goat had left early in the morning, a wolf was passing by the house.
Cold, hungry, wandering through the forest. I'm starving, I have nowhere to sleep! What am I to do?
The wolf howled mournfully.
Oh, and here's the little house of our hardworking goat and her kids. I wonder who's home?
The wolf approached the door and knocked softly.
Who's there?
The smallest kid answered in a tender voice.
Postman, I've brought a message from your mother.
The wolf replied.
The kids approached the door and listened, when suddenly one of them said:
That's not true. We talk to our mother through our smartwatches, and if she needed to tell us something, she would definitely call us.
We won't open the door, go away, you liar!
The kids shouted in unison.
What am I to do?
The wolf muttered quietly to himself.
Maybe I'll pretend to be a kind wizard who's brought little children some gifts?
The wolf thought and headed back to the goat's house.
Who's there?
The kids answered in chorus at the knock on the door.
It's me — a kind wizard, I want to give you lots of gifts because you behave so well.
What gifts have you brought us?
The kids asked with interest.
Oh, there are so many, I couldn't list them all. A beautiful computer, a big hoverboard with glowing wheels, and a new music player with built-in super-powerful speakers.
The wolf replied.
Wow! I've always wanted a hoverboard to zoom around the forest on.
One of the kids beamed with joy.
And I've been dreaming of getting a music player, one that plays music loud enough for the whole forest to hear!
Another kid exclaimed happily.
And only the youngest one looked anxiously at the door and suddenly cried out:
What if it's the evil wolf and he's trying to trick us? We'll open the door for him and he'll gobble us all up.
Ha-ha-ha!!! A wolf? He's never even heard of hoverboards, tablets, and players in his life. He's as ancient as the oak tree by our house.
The kids laughed. Together they approached the door, unlocked it, and a huge grey wolf appeared on the threshold.
The kids screamed and squealed, but the wolf was already in the room. He roared so loudly that the little ones shut their eyes in fear. The wolf opened his mouth, pounced on the kids and swallowed them all in one gulp. Only the smallest kid managed to jump into a rucksack that the children used for forest walks.
Oh, what a nice little bag!
The wolf glanced at the rucksack where the little one was hiding.
I'll take it for myself, it'll be useful for hunting such foolish and defenceless creatures.
The wolf grabbed the rucksack and left the house. The wolf had swallowed the little kids so quickly that they couldn't even move inside his belly. But the little kid in the rucksack was thinking of a plan to tell his mother what had happened. And finally, a brilliant idea came to him.
He remembered that he had a smartwatch and could call his mother-goat on it.
The kid quietly pressed the call button and half a minute later heard:
Hello, children, how are you?
The goat answered in a calm voice.
The kid couldn't answer her, because then the wolf would hear everything. The little one quietly unzipped the rucksack, stuck out his hoof with the smartwatch, and turned on the video display. All the way, the wolf was humming something to himself, whilst the goat urgently got ready to help her children. As soon as she saw the bushy grey tail, she understood everything immediately.
Meanwhile, the wolf reached his home. Throwing the rucksack on the floor, the wolf lay down on his soft bed and started snoring. As soon as he fell asleep, the little kid jumped out of the rucksack and called his mother again.
Hello, Mummy, dear Mummy! Something terrible has happened!
The kid whispered hurriedly.
I know, I understood that the grey wolf took you. Where are the other kids?
The goat asked.
They're in the wolf's belly, he swallowed them all at once.
The kid cried.
I know what to do. I'll call all the kids in the wolf's belly at once. The smartwatches will play so loudly that the wolf will want to spit out our little ones no matter what. And by then I'll arrive with reinforcements.
The goat dialled six numbers at once, and loud music started playing in the wolf's belly.
Oh, what's wrong with my belly?
The wolf woke up immediately.
I can't take it, help me somebody!!! I can't do this anymore!!!!
The wolf ran from corner to corner, not understanding what was happening. And the music was playing just as loudly in his belly. The wolf rushed from corner to corner, holding his belly and then his head. And suddenly, completely losing control, the wolf crashed into a chair so hard that he split his belly open, and six kids immediately jumped out of it.
At that moment, the goat burst into the house with reinforcements — they grabbed the wolf and tied him up with ropes. By then, the animal police had arrived at the wolf's house and took the villain to a special department from which such bandits could never escape.
From that day on, the kids never opened the door to strangers again. They always obeyed their mother and never took off their smartwatches, which had helped them defeat the grey wolf.
