The Tale of the Foolish Little Mouse

Author:
A tale about a naughty little mouse who wouldn't listen to his mother Mouse and the babysitters she hired. That is, until he met a cat. Perfect for teaching misbehaving children a lesson.

Mother Mouse was rocking her Little Mouse to sleep:

Sleep, my dear son, tomorrow I'll buy you a surprise egg and a big soft toy.

But he was being difficult:

I don't want a surprise egg, I want a remote-controlled helicopter and a different babysitter!

With no other choice, Mother picked up the newspaper classifieds and started looking for babysitter positions. She called 10 numbers, but no one agreed—only Aunt Duck said she'd come.

The next evening, Aunt Duck was rocking Little Mouse to sleep:

Rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye, fall asleep Little Mouse, and tomorrow we'll go to the circus to watch wild tigers and eat candy floss!

Yuck, yuck, yuck, I don't want candy floss, I want ice cream, and your voice is absolutely terrible!

Aunt Duck felt hurt and left Little Mouse.

With no other choice, Mother Mouse picked up the newspaper again and called 10 more people. Aunt Toad agreed to help.

The toad was rocking the little mouse and singing:

Croak-croak-croak, go to sleep, child! Tomorrow we'll go to the water park together.

I don't want to go to the water park, I want to stay home and watch cartoons! You have an annoying voice, go away!

Little Mouse said sleepily.

Aunt Toad felt hurt and hopped back home.

Sad Mother Mouse picked up the newspaper again—she'd already looked through 20 ads. No one wanted to babysit the naughty Little Mouse, and only Aunt Horse agreed.

She came and started singing a song:

Sleep, Little Mouse, go to sleep, I'll give you a piece of cheese or we can open some caramel popcorn, just fall asleep.

I don't want popcorn, I've had enough of it! You're very scary, hairy, and your voice is awful, go away!

Aunt Horse snorted and galloped off to the pasture. Mother Mouse decided to search online for a babysitter, hoping there would be more positions available. She looked and looked, but nothing seemed right, until she found one interesting ad. Aunt Hen agreed to help raise the naughty Little Mouse.

She tucked the child in and clucked:

Cluck-cluck-cluck, go to sleep quickly, may you have beautiful dreams! Tomorrow we'll go for a walk in the park and eat ice cream!

I don't want to walk in the park, and there's ice cream in the freezer at home, whatever kind I want! Annoying hen, go away!

Aunt Hen was upset, clucked loudly, and left.

Mother Mouse sent an email to her old friend Aunt Pike:

Come, dear, help me rock Little Mouse to sleep, all my hopes are on you!

Alright, I'll do my best to help!

Aunt Pike replied. She came and started rocking Little Mouse, opening her mouth, but nothing could be heard.

Little Mouse started to complain:

What are you singing? I can't hear anything! I can sing better—la-la-laaaa... Go home, I don't like you at all!

Aunt Pike got angry, flicked her tail, and swam away to the blue sea.

Once again, Mother Mouse was sad and thought, maybe she should call Aunt Cat? She wrote her a letter, and without much thought, Aunt Cat agreed.

Aunt Cat came and started to lull him to sleep:

Meow-meow-meow, don't lie on the edge! Fall asleep quickly, little crumb!

Oh, what a beautiful voice you have, I like it so much, please stay and live with us!

Then Mother Mouse came back, looking for her child, but he was nowhere to be found.

Where has my Little Mouse hidden?

Mother Mouse wondered, and he had vanished without a trace...

She called Aunt Cat, but she didn't answer—the phone was out of service...
