The Little Tractor

Author:
A modern fairy tale about a little tractor with big yellow eyes who was teased and mistreated by big adult vehicles. But goodness prevailed in the end, because someone helped someone else and received gratitude in return.

Once upon a time there lived a little tractor in the world, with big yellow eyes and thick long eyelashes. He loved to ride along the waterfront in the morning, and he loved long autumn walks along rainy streets.

But he was very sad being alone, because in his city there was only one little tractor with big yellow eyes, and many big and small vehicles.

The big vehicles often teased the little tractor, saying:

You're so small, you can't carry anything because you don't have a cargo bed. We have big cargo beds, we can carry anything—candy, chocolates, new toys.

And the little vehicles said this:

We're so miniature and elegant, we have such beautiful little mini-vehicle children, we can drive really fast and we don't make any noise. But you're so bulky and you rattle so loudly when you drive!

The little tractor replied:

But I can drive through the muddiest puddle and over the deepest hole!

We don't need that, we're very comfortable driving and playing on clean, smooth asphalt!

The little vehicle children answered and continued to tease the tractor.

And he felt hurt, but didn't show it, he just stayed silent and drove away to one of his favourite places—the autumn park—and watched the stars all night until morning.

But suddenly winter arrived...

That night, the sky dropped many, many fluffy white flakes, and all the roads were covered with a beautiful snowy blanket. The little tractor happily drove through the snowdrifts, sweeping everything in his path, playing with snowflakes and catching them in his mouth.

But the vehicles were in no mood for fun. They simply got stuck in the middle of the roads and couldn't get home to their children—the mini-vehicles. They stood sadly up to their waists in snow and shivered from the cold.

And so, the little tractor was driving by when the vehicles started calling to him:

Help us get out of the snow trap, free us!

The little tractor was very kind and happily began to help his brothers, forgetting his hurt feelings. He quickly began to sweep the snow from the roads and roadsides, brushing snowflakes off the frozen vehicles. And within a few minutes all the vehicles were freed and happily began driving home to their families.

As they said goodbye, they hugged the little tractor tightly and thanked him:

Thank you, little tractor, for freeing us from the snowdrifts, now we can go to our children—the mini-vehicles. If it weren't for you, we would have stayed in the snowdrifts, rusted, and no one would have pulled us out. Forgive us for hurting you, we won't do it again!
