The Tale of the Figure Skater and the Frosty Winter

Author:
An original fairy tale about a little girl who dreamt of becoming the best figure skater. And a miracle happened — her cherished dream came true! And the Queen of Winter helped her achieve it.

In one small town lived a family: mum, dad and a little girl named Emma. Not far from their home were several lakes, where residents would go for picnics in summer. And in winter, children would run there to skate, show off what they'd learnt, and see who could skate the fastest.

Emma was one of the best, because when she was just four years old, her dad gave her the most expensive skates in the shop for her birthday. And from then on, every winter's day, when the water was covered with thick ice, the girl would go skating with her dad.

Even in her early childhood, Emma saw an interesting programme on telly, where beautiful figure skating girls twirled on the ice to loud, beautiful music. The things they did: spinning and performing all sorts of difficult tricks.

And Emma especially loved it when the figure skating girls danced on the ice together with their partners — boys. Emma could sit for hours in front of the telly, eyes glued to the screen, and all that time she dreamt of learning to skate as beautifully as all those kids on the television.

And Emma also waited for when she would finally turn seven and could go to a special school, where a beautiful young woman teaches children like her to skate on ice and perform the most beautiful tricks to music.

And then that long-awaited day arrived — Emma turned seven.

Mummy, Daddy!

Waking up, the girl ran into the lounge room and shouted with all her might.

It's my birthday today, I'm a whole seven years old. Can I go to lessons with that beautiful lady who teaches children like me to skate beautifully on ice?

Mum and Dad looked at their daughter with a smile.

Well, we've prepared a present for you. But you must be a magician, since you guessed exactly what's waiting for you.

Mum laughed.

Today we're going to your first lesson, where you'll put on your skates and train with the group.

Hooray, hooray, this day has finally come!

Emma was overjoyed and rushed off to change out of her pyjamas. Within fifteen minutes she was standing in the hallway, washed, fed and dressed, ready for new experiences and achievements.

From then on, Emma began attending lessons. And from then on, the girl had a dream — she wanted to become the very best figure skater. To achieve this, Emma practised extra on her own, when all the other children went home after lessons.

The girl would go to the lake with her dad and work on her skating technique independently, without the instructor.

One day, on one of the cold winter days, when the sun appeared in the sky but the frost didn't let up, and lessons in the figure skating group were cancelled because of the severe cold, Emma decided to go skating.

Dad! Daddy! Are we going to the rink today?

As soon as she opened her eyes, Emma called out, without getting out of bed.

Have you done your homework? Come on, study first, and then we'll go to your rink!

Dad answered Emma.

Dad, they didn't give us any homework, we can go right now.

Emma stood her ground.

But Dad didn't hear Emma's answer and assumed his daughter had got on with her homework.

Meanwhile, Emma quietly got ready, dressed warmly, took her beautiful skates and set off to the lake by herself.

I'll just skate a bit by myself, not for long, and no one will notice I'm not home.

Emma ran to the lake, put on her skates and went out onto the ice. The girl already stood quite confidently on the ice, she could skate very fast and even spin. And suddenly, beneath her feet she heard a loud crack, and before her formed an enormous crack. Emma didn't even have time to blink when suddenly she fell into an abyss and lost consciousness.

Emma opened her eyes — everything around her was shining. The girl looked around, she couldn't understand where she'd ended up. Only huge blocks of ice around her resembled a real cave. Emma carefully stood up, and suddenly, before her eyes appeared a beautiful woman in a white flowing dress. On her head was a crown that sparkled like diamonds.

Hello, Emma. I've been watching you for a long time, you try very hard and skate very beautifully.

The woman said in a cold tone.

For some reason, Emma wasn't frightened at all.

Hello, thank you. I really want to become a real figure skater and skate better than everyone, so they'll show me on telly and everyone in our town will applaud me.

The girl answered.

Would you like me to help you?

The woman suddenly asked.

She waved her arms, her crown lit up with bright colours, and Emma suddenly transformed into a beautiful figure skater in a sparkling blue dress. Around her suddenly appeared many spectators, who clapped and shouted:

Emma, you're the best and the most beautiful!

Emma closed her eyes for a moment, and she so wanted this happiness to last as long as possible.

And suddenly, opening her eyes, Emma found herself in her room.

Was it all just a dream?

The girl wondered.

Then she turned her gaze to the bedside table near her bed. On it she saw wonderful new skates with a beautiful pattern. Next to the skates lay neatly folded a performance dress in bright blue, exactly like the one she'd just dreamt about.

That was the real Queen of Winter, who makes dreams come true!

Emma understood and smiled quietly, because her dream had come true.
